Virtual Recitals are multi-track recording projects. In October, 2013, I arranged The Beatles’ “Ob La Di, Ob La Da” into parts for six of my younger students: Millie Bennett (ukulele), Ethan Sikka (classical guitar), Chase Bonhotel (acoustic guitar melody), Charlie Bennett (acoustic guitar melody), Matthew Messenger (acoustic guitar harmony), and Will Brite (rhythm guitar). We recorded each of their tracks individually to a metronome.

I try to help my students find what makes music enjoyable for them. Some enjoy learning a ridiculous amount of material by one particular artist; others want to grasp as many styles and genres as they can. Some enjoy writing their own songs, licks and riffs; others are content to jam, learning scales and theory so they can play on impulse. Some, believe it or not, just enjoy learning scales and theory.
.
Whatever we cover in our lessons, I intend to help the student grow as a musician and develop a lifelong love of music.

YOUR INSTRUMENT
Guitar: It doesn’t matter if it’s electric, steel-string acoustic or nylon-string classical, it’s just got to play.
.
Beginners of all ages tend to prefer playing nylon-string guitars, as the strings are much easier to press down, and thus, much less painful.
.
Still don’t have a guitar? I’ve got an extra one or two or three you can try for our initial lessons. I can’t loan them out though, and you will eventually need a guitar at home to practice.
.
Ukulele: My younger students have had great success starting out with the ukulele. Little people get along with little instruments.
.
READING MATERIAL
No need to buy any books in the beginning, but I may recommend reading material as we go along.
